⭐ Why Do We Make Wudu?

Wudu is a precondition for prayer. It cleans our body and also our heart.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the best way to make wudu, and every time we do it properly, our small sins fall away.

“O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salah (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of Janabah (i.e. after a sexual discharge), purify yourselves (bathe your whole body). But if you are ill or on a journey, or any of you comes after answering the call of nature, or you have been in contact with women (i.e. sexual intercourse), and you find no water, then perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands. Allah does not want to place you in difficulty, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His Favour to you that you may be thankful” [al-Maidah 5:6]

🌙 Step-by-Step Wudu Guide for Kids (Sunnah Way)

Teach your child to say each step out loud and imitate you. Kids learn best when they copy!

1. Make the Intention (Niyyah)

Your child does not say anything out loud — just make the intention in the heart.

2. Say “Bismillah”

Before starting, say “Bismillah”.

3. Wash the Hands Three Times

Wash both hands up to the wrists.

✔ Include between the fingers
✔ Wash right hand then left hand

4. Rinse the Mouth & Nose Three Times

Take water in the right hand ➝ put into mouth and nose ➝ swirl water inside the mouth ➝ spit and blow water out from nose using the left hand

5. Wash the Face Three Times

Wash from:

✔ hairline
✔ down to chin
✔ ear to ear

All of the face should touch water.

6. Wash the Arms Three Times

Wash the right arm from fingertips to elbows three times.
Then do the left arm the same way.

7. Wipe the Head & Ears Once

Get fresh water and wipe with wet hands:

  • Start at the front of the head

  • Move to the back

  • Then return hands to the front

Use the same water (do not re-dip your hands):

  • Inside the ears with index fingers

  • Behind the ears with the thumbs

8. Wash the Feet Three Times

Wash the feet up to the ankles three times.

Make sure to wash:

✔ between the toes
✔ the heels and bottom of feet

🎉 Your Wudu Is Complete!

After completing wudu, your child can say the beautiful dua the Prophet ﷺ taught:

(I bear witness that there is no god except Allah alone with no partner,
and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.
)

Hadith narrated by Humran the freed slave of ‘Uthman, who said that ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) called for water to do wudu. He washed his hands three times, then he rinsed his mouth and nose, then he washed his face three times, then he washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then he washed his left arm likewise. Then he wiped his head, then he washed his right foot up to the ankle three times, then he washed his left foot likewise. Then he said, “I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) doing wudu as I have done it, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever does wudu as I have done it, then prays two rak’ahs in which he focuses completely on his prayer, his previous sins will be forgiven.’” (Narrated by Muslim, al-Taharah, 331)

🌟 Tips for Teaching Kids

  • Make wudu together — kids learn by copying.

  • Use gentle reminders, not strict corrections.

  • Show them hadith about how wudu washes away sins.

  • Turn wudu into an engaging routine that you can do together before every prayer.

Abu Huraira reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: When a bondsman-a Muslim or a believer-washes his face (in course of ablution), every sin he contemplated with his eyes, will be washed away from his face along with water, or with the last drop of water; when he washes his hands, every sin they wrought will be effaced from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water; and when he washes his feet, every sin towards which his feet have walked will be washed away with the water or with the last drop of water with the result that he comes out pure from all sins. (Sahih Muslim 244)

💛 Final Message to Parents

When you teach your child wudu, you are teaching them beneficial knowledge they will use their whole life—a beautiful act of worship that brings them closer to Allah.

May Allah make our children among the pious who establish salah and follow the Sunnah of the Messenger ﷺ.
